Shelby County is a growing Tennessee county. With a population of about 930,000 people, it is the largest county in the state. It is located in the southwestern corner of Tennessee and touches Arkansas and Mississippi on its western and southern borders.

Shelby County is located in an area that was originally inhabited by Native Americans of the Chickasaw Tribe. In 1819, European settlers arrived in the area and formed the county. Shelby County was named for Isaac Shelby, the former Governor of Kentucky who helped negotiate the Jackson Purchase of 1818 which made the formation of Shelby County possible.

Shelby County is home to many attractions. Music enthusiasts will find particular interest in Shelby County since its seat is Memphis, Tennessee. Attractions in the county include Beale Street, the Gibson Guitar Factory, Graceland, which is the former home of Elvis Presley, the Memphis Zoo, and the National Civil Rights Museum. There are also many outdoor recreational opportunities located in and near Shelby County. The Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park is located in the northwestern corner of Shelby County and is home to 13,000 acres of recreational land. Individuals who visit the park are encouraged to hike one of the many trails, participate in bird and animal watches, and spend time on the lake.
